Positioning Straps

Positioning Straps

The positioning strap or pole strap was originally made from leather, which over time deteriorated due to exposure to the elements and abrasion. Today, we use three materials - Nybuck, leather reinforced with nylon and woven nylon.

Nybuck is woven nylon filament cloth, folded and impregnated with neoprene and then pressed under pressure to ensure permanent bonding and sealing of edges, to prevent moisture penetration. Center layers are of contrasting colors, so that wear is readily apparent. Nybuck is surprisingly flexible.

Leather reinforced with nylon, is nylon webbing between layers of leather. The result is strength, durability and flexibility. The nylon webbing also provides a visual indication of wear.

Woven nylon is extremely pliable. Center layers are of contrasting color to provide a visual cue to excessive wear. A slide buckle makes woven nylon straps very easy to adjust.

The main components of pole straps are the strap, a buckle and two snap hooks. These components are thoroughly tested using Buckingham's own quality control lab and at an independent lab to ensure they meet or exceed all standards. For the user's convenience, Buckingham also offers two types of snap hooks - standard and locking, and two types of buckles - tongue and friction.

The  adjustable straps are made in standard lengths from 5'-8" through 8' maximum lengths.

Buckingham recommends the use of locking snaphooks.

Exterior circle and excessive bent dee rings may contribute to accidental disengagement with non locking snap hooks.

Locking Snap Hooks

New Locking Snap Hook

Buckingham has developed a new locker which operates like a non-locker.

  • Easy to use with heavy rubber gloves and protectors
  • Ergonomically designed to attach and detach to dee rings with ease
  • Due to hinge point of keepers, the handling of the locking snaphook from the non-locking design is unchanged.
  • Internal locking mechanism - no ears to bend or defeat.
  • To order, add 99E to pole strap model number

A second new snaphook option is the "77" locking snap. The 77 has an external locking mechanism without using tabs that can bend, and like the 99E it is designed to open easily with a gloved hand. Add a 7 to the model number for a locking snap hook on the double strap end. Add 77 for locking snaps on both ends.
